This student is pursuing her first year of a B.Com course in a college near Kanchipuram. She lives with her mother and younger brother in Chennai. Her father passed away eight years ago after suffering from diabetes and related illnesses.

Her mother is employed as a tailor in a garment export unit, earning Rs. 6,000 per month. Her brother has just taken his SSLC exams and is awaiting results. This family lives in a house that is in the name of the father. However, the father had another wife and family, which is also claiming the house and there have been many conflicts.

The student was referred to Aalayam by a person living in the neighbourhood. The mother is keen to provide her children with a good education in order to give them better employment opportunities. With her salary, she is unable to pay her daughter’s first year college fee of Rs. 27,000. After a detailed review, Aalayam has approved Rs. 27,000 for this cause.
